Trend Forecast: #NationalLipstickDay
Now, here’s something to pucker up about: Today is National Lipstick Day! That means it's the perfect time to slick on your favorite shade and take a peek at the lip trends you can look forward to this fall and winter, courtesy of our National Cosmetic Director and makeup artist extraordinaire, Sharayah Lee.
As it turns out, trends seem to be shifting from perfectly lined pouts to more undone, effortless lip looks. One major player that we’ve been seeing center stage at handfuls of runway shows is a soft gradual ombré look. This look has a darker, more concentrated pigment at the center that fades towards the outside of the lips, giving it a romantic, kissable appearance. Lee calls calls this look a "raw organic undone lip."
This variation on the ombré lip is much more subtle than the bright and bold ombré lip colours we’ve seen in the past. It brings a softer, more feminine feel to the overall look and is the perfect pairing for the minimal makeup trend that has been gaining momentum since last year.
Less-is-more makeup trends like this one seem to indicate a change in the way we approach beauty, which is good news for those in favor of keeping it simple when it comes to their makeup. No-makeup makeup might just be the trend lazy girls all over the world have been searching for, but that doesn't mean it's any less gorgeous! These stripped down makeup looks are simple yet incredibly stunning, and a subdued ombré lip gives it that perfect high fashion finish.
"Traditional beauty standards are going out the door and raw, undone makeup is becoming more popular for an overall effortless look. We are projecting a ton of nude lip for Fall/Winter 2016," said Lee.
As Lee notes, the nude lip is also going to be a huge trend in the coming seasons, falling perfectly in line with the effortless makeup looks that have been prominent on the runway. Like the softer ombré lips we’re expecting to see, the nude lip is predicted to shift towards a more natural, true-nude look.
Lee explained that this trend which features nude lips with slight hydration helps draw attention to the eyes, as seen by Peter Philips for Fendi & Pat McGrath for Valentino. This change from the matte nude lips that have been popular in the past gives the understated shade all new life. Nude is about to go from glamazon to glowing goddess.
However, if you’re the type who likes to keep it classic, don’t worry! The timeless matte red lip doesn’t seem to be going anywhere–at least not anytime soon! A perfectly defined matte red lip is still one of our favorite makeup staples and remains a prominent trend in the fashion and beauty world.
Darker matte shades are also hot picks with crimson and dark mulberry looks taking the top spots for forecasted trending hues as seen by Sam Bryant for Jean Paul Gaultier.
